A Creative Brew

When you drink too much beer in an evening, you:

1.)   Consume too many calories ___
2.)   Lose all your inhibitions ___
3.)   Act stupid ___
4.)   Get drunk ___
5.)   All of the above ___

When you drink the India Pale Ale brewed by the Rocket Brewing Company, you?

Beer research (fun job!) has indicated that creative thinking peaks at an alcohol level of 0.075.  CP&B Copenhagen (an advertising agency) has partnered with Rocket Brewing Company to market Problem Solver, an India Pale Ale that helps its drinkers if they drink the right amount, reach their creative peak.  Their marketing movement has been crafted to include sponsoring brainstorming session utilizing Problem Solver to solve community issues. 

Hopefully Rocket Brewing Company will send a few cases of Problem Solver to the next G7 summit to be held in Bavaria, Germany June 7-8.  The approval of the host country will be needed.

Forbidden Foods Go Healthy

We now live in a world of kale ubiquity – kale salads, kale chips, kale smoothies, kale pesto, etc.  Consequently, all the 2015 Hottest Food & Beverage Trends lists disclosed their predictions for life beyond kale, the next generation of superfoods.  Surprise!  Some forbidden foods have gone healthy.

According to the Oxford Dictionary superfood is a “nutrient-rich food considered to be beneficial for health and well-being.”  Some medical researchers claim superfoods is a marketing ploy.  Others claim that nutrition research is an ongoing process and scientists need time to search out the different components in food.  Below is a list of my three favorite forbidden foods that have gone healthy:

1.    Cheese – Definitely fat city, but medical research indicates cheese contains CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) an anti-oxidant that helps protect against heart disease because of its anti-inflammatory effects.  Downside: An ounce of cheese, which can range from 50 to 100 calories depending on the variety, is about the size of four dice.  Let’s not forget the copious amount of wine most people consume while eating some good cheese.

2.    Chocolate Milk – Long considered a no-no because it contains added sugar and extra calories if you consume regular milk.  However, recent research suggests that chocolate milk aids in post-workout recovery within one hour – four key ingredients (protein, carbs, fluids and electrolytes) that facilitate muscle repair.  Downside: What if you don’t workout?

3.    Peanut Butter – Portion control has always been an issue with peanut butter since it is categorized as a spread, thus high in fat content and calories per serving (two tablespoons).  However, nutrition experts now recognize that peanut butter contains heart healthy non-artery-clogging fats – monounsaturated and polyunsaturated.  In addition, a 2014 medical study (British Journal of Nutrition) revealed that peanut butter may improve blood sugar regulation.  Downside: Finger dipping. 

Eureka!  Life beyond kale; forbidden foods!

2015: Step Forward!

January 6th: Sticking to your New Year’s Resolutions – possibly more of the same old, same old?  Classic examples: Plan to lose weight, thus exercise more; plan to stop smoking; plan to carve out more time with my family; etc., etc., etc.  How can you step forward in 2015?

Last year I challenged everyone to re-examine their focus (detailed below).   

Forgo unnecessary commitments/activities (a.k.a. over scheduling).
Congressing (Urban Dictionary): Avoid being unproductive despite having a lot to do.
Savor your private time.

This year I challenge you to start thinking about how to step forward in 2015.  Begin by asking yourself three significant questions:

·         What do you plan to do differently at work? 

·         What do you plan to change at home?

·         What contributions are you going to make to your community?

Are you ready to try something different in 2015 or are you going to do more of the same old, same old?  Its 2015: Step Forward!
